For me, the senior class trip to Disney was the culmination of many things. It was a celebration of making it to senior year, a break from the dreaded college responsibilities, and a chance to see if the trip really did live up to the stories brought back and the smiling pictures that had dotted my instagram feed about a year prior.  Unsurprisingly, it really did. I had moments where I was laughing so hard I was in tears, a kind of happiness that I thought only existed in movies.

Like a few members of my class, I had never been to Disney. My dads blatant dislike for amusement parks and my mom’s request that we not vacation in a place with screaming children due to her having to already deal with enough of them for her job had lead to us never making our way down to the most magical place on earth. So, when I arrived at Disney for the first time I had a few things I knew I wanted to do.

  1. See the fireworks
  2. Ride “It’s a Small World”
  3. Eat a mickey pretzel
  4. Take a picture in front of the world-renowned Cinderella’s Castle
  5. Ride Everest

Somehow, I managed to complete my list. It was undoubtedly the best of times where everyone could just hang out with friends and be kids for one last time before we all left for college. It was considered acceptable and even encouraged to eat junk food without caring for once. It was a time to be proud of getting so far.

One of my favorite moments, besides riding Avatar Flight of Passage twice without having to wait the typical three hours, was when my friends and I caught the Magic Kingdom fireworks on our final night in Disney. There is something truly magical about sitting, laughing, and talking with people who make you smile, all while eating dole whip and listening to the songs of your childhood being played alongside an incredible fireworks display. It is something I will truly never forget.
