On Friday, January 20th, Donald Trump was inaugurated as the president of the United States of America, with Mike Pence as his Vice President. Now, let’s take this calmly, shall we?

About 30.6 million viewers tuned in to watch this event, making it the fifth most-viewed inauguration in history, only succeeded by Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, and Ronald Reagan, in that order. Though come to think of it, it’d be difficult for someone like Thomas Jefferson to gain more views, wouldn’t it? There weren’t even half that many people in the United States at the time. People seem to be having difficulty deciding how many people attended Trump’s inauguration in person, but it was definitely at least 300,000 people. Whether Trump was correct in estimating that 1.5 million people attended is disputable, but it is more likely that the crowd was in the 300,000-600,000 range. Still, not bad. That’s about as much as the entire human population of the state of Wyoming, and almost a half of its cow population. Truly, this is an impressive achievement, though this was not as large as Obama’s inaugural crowd turnout in 2009; with 1.8 million attendees, he had about 30% more people attend than Wyoming has cows and more people see his inauguration in person than live in 39 of the 50 states, which is also about a fifth as many people as live in New York City.

Trump’s inaugural address, which he wrote himself, was about twenty minutes long. He spoke about how America will be back in the hands of the people, and how now is the time to take action. Altogether, it seemed nicely inspirational, though it reflected Trump’s views on various controvertial issues such as immigration. Those who support him were likely pleased, anyway. However, other than those few points, his speech reflected how Americans should try to stand together as a nation, as “when America is United, America is totally unstoppable”. In a time when everybody seems to disagree on certain vaguely implied controverstial issues, national unity would likely be beneficial, as after all, agree or disagree, we’re all in this together so we might as well stick it out.

So ANYway, Trump seems to be sticking to his campaign promises. I suppose some people like that and some don’t. He has made progress in halting Muslim entry into the United States, replacing Obamacare, and building a wall between the United States and Mexico. Yes indeed. Those are facts. Of course, these things are still long underway. For example, only an executive order has been signed that will direct money towards the wall’s construction. However, it seems that with time, more of these projects will be taken underway.

What happens next? Only time will tell, and with Trump only having been in office about a month, it’s too early to tell for certain what to expect. At any rate, we’ll have the joy of repeating this process in 2020.
